| Office Volunteers |
|
Volunteers are very much a part of the team at the VCC. In fact all our receptionists are volunteers, as well as many of those helping out behind the scenes, including administrative, publicity, finance and fundraising volunteers.
We frequently attend fetes and hold small scale events as well as providing practical assistance to families on low incomes in the form of children’s safety equipment, clothes, prams, cots and much more.
So we always need people to help us sort and organise our storage areas.
Office volunteers usually have a regular time they help out each week perhaps a whole day or a morning or afternoon once a week. You do not necessarily need office experience as our staff can provide you with training and support.
If you would like to find out more open about becoming a volunteer receptionist or helping us to sort donated goods view our task description below or to discuss other opportunities email sarah@voluntarycarecentre.co.uk.
Task Description
What does being a Reception volunteer involve?
You will be required to perform reception duties, including; answering and transferring telephone calls, taking messages, greeting visitors, keeping the leaflets display tidy, stamping and taking post to the post box, opening and closing the centre at the appropriate times and answering simple queries.
You will be asked to deal with enquiries such as requests for volunteer applications (by hand or post), book volunteer interviews (according to availability in office diary) and give details of furniture projects to members of the public wishing to donate goods.
What else might be expected?
Aside from your regular weekly slot, you may be asked to cover reception in another volunteer’s absence. You may need to take the suggested donations for books and cards and advise callers/visitors on which items are needed in the Benevolent fund cupboard (we provide children’s clothes and safety equipment)
You will be expected to attend our annual receptionists meeting and VCC support sessions for all volunteers (held 3-4 times each year).
How long will I have to commit to?
A minimum of three months is required. There is no maximum length of commitment.
How frequently will I be needed?
The centre is open 10am – 1pm, 2- 4 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Volunteer Receptionists cover one of these slots on a weekly basis. You will be expected to arrive at least five minutes before we are due to open.
How am I trained?
We will arrange for you to work with experienced volunteer receptionists. The length of training is tailored to the individuals needs, but normally consists of 1-3 sessions. We will provide further support and training on an on-going basis.
Do I need experience?
No. However a clear speaking voice is essential.
The Organiser is here to support you in your voluntary work and therefore welcomes feedback whether it is about any concerns you may have or just keeping up to date on your progress.
